GEORGE NEWS - The Black Cats u.13 team outplayed 11 other junior teams to come out tops in a tournament hosted by the George Local Football Association in partnership with Blue Ribbon last weekend.
The tournament was organised to not only put the spotlight on the future of soccer - our youth - but also to give the youngsters some healthy activity after the school exams ended.
The Black Cats team beat Burning Fire 3-1 in the final at the Lawaaikamp Stadium on Sunday afternoon. In the semi-finals, Burning Fire downed Young Brothers 1-0, while Black Cats won 4-0 against George Vultures. The twelve junior teams taking part were Black Cats, Burning Fire, George Vultures, Young Brothers, Heaven Stars, France United, Fast Eleven, Bangalore, Future Stars, Vista, Silver Stars and Western Tigers.

Poor communication among the Burning Fire back line enabled Black Cats to be in the lead 1- 0 at the end of the first half, courtesy of the kicking boot of Obamubom Songelwa.
Employing the strength of Azande Qampi, Black Cats continued building their passes from the centre in the second half while Songelwa kept up the pressure on Burning Fire's back line. Kumgawo Tuti and Songelwa (second goal) scored for Black Cats and Aminathi Poni managed a solitary goal for Burning Fire, putting the final score at 3-1 with Black Cats taking home the title.
Songelwa was the top goal scorer of the tournament with seven goals under his belt, while the Black Cats centre mid, Azande Qampi, was named the best performer.
Blue Ribbon representative Ntombi Ngumbane said they are looking forward to promoting sport development at grassroots level in George communities.
