GEORGE FOOTBALL NEWS - Residents were following the Eden Region's two aspiring referees with great interest last weekend when they represented the region on provincial level in Cape Town.
The promising assistant referees from the dusty streets of Thembalethu, "AR" Thandile Akhumzi Madela (21) and Siyabonga Dyonasi (25), were flying the flag high for the region in the Western Cape ABC Motsepe League playoffs.
The young match officials are following in the footsteps of the highly rated Premier Soccer League match officials who currently represent the Eden Region on the Safa National Panel, the likes of Masixole Bambiso (George), Thabo Twayise (George), Sibusiso Mvubu (George), Patrick Jafta (Oudtshoorn), Charles Petersen (Mossel Bay) and Ebrahim August (Oudtshoorn).
Commenting after the playoffs, Madela said he wants to become a professional match official and represent the region on the national panel.
He will work hard to do justice to the Eden Region and make his family proud. He thanked his senior colleague, Masixole Bambiso, who has always supported him.
