GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Eight budding cricket stars from four schools in Knysna and Plettenberg Bay have been selected as part of the Garden Route Badgers' youth teams for various upcoming national cricket tournaments.
The Garden Route Badgers, which is the brand name for SWD Cricket that was adopted as of August this year, has four senior youth teams (U16 upwards) taking part in national cricket weeks in December.
These are the U16 boys and girls teams as well as the U19 boys and girls teams.
The U16 girls team will play in East London from 11 to 14 December, where the local star is Taryn Jansen (Oakhill School), who hails from Plett.
In the U16 boys team that will play in Johannesburg from 10 to 14 December, Enathi Khitshini (Knysna High School) and Trent Huysamen (Outeniqua High School), who hails from Knysna, will fly the Knysna flag high.
The U19 girls team is where the most local stars will be playing, as no less than four girls have been chosen for the team that will play in Bloemfontein from 13 to 16 December. Jeneva van Wyk and Rusha van Wieling (Plettenberg Bay Secondary School) were selected alongside Neidine and Treidine Solomons (Knysna Secondary School) in this team.
Finally, in the boys U19 team there is one representative - Elro Spies (Knysna High School) will play in the side that will be in Stellenbosch from 15 to 18 December.
