GEORGE NEWS - South Africa's top duathletes competed in Hoekwil on Saturday 11 July, as the SA Duathlon Championships brought the country's leading multisport athletes to the Garden Route.
Hosted by Eden Triathlon in partnership with Chain Gang Events, the national championships attracted competitors of all ages who raced across a variety of distances, from super sprint to long distance, on the challenging roads surrounding Hoekwil.
The event forms part of a three-year hosting agreement that has secured one of South Africa's premier multisport championships for the Garden Route, showcasing the region as a destination for endurance sport.
Joshua Steytler emerged victorious in the men's standard race, while Mellusca Toovey won the women's standard title. Kirsty Weir claimed victory in the para women's sprint category, while Christopher Peers claimed victory in the para men's sprint category.
Other winners included Freddie Visser in the men's long-distance race and Liezl van der Merwe in the women's long-distance event.

Sprint age group honours went to Sthokoza Zondi in the men's division and Frederika Rossouw in the women's division, while Zac Fletcher won the boys' sprint junior title and Nadia van Wyk the girls' title.
In the super sprint events, Wihanru Aspeling won the boys' category and Keyla Douglas the girls' division.

The championships once again highlighted the depth of South African duathlon talent while providing a significant boost to sports tourism in the Garden Route.
