GEORGE NEWS - After just over three years, George Municipality's Chief Traffic Officer, Janine Wells, has resigned.
The municipality confirmed Wells' resignation in response to a media enquiry, but declined to provide any further information about her departure.
Wells was appointed in George on 1 December 2022 after joining the municipality from the Cape Town metro, where she had built up more than two decades of experience in municipal traffic services.
During her tenure, she was responsible for traffic law enforcement, licensing services, road safety initiatives and by-law enforcement, while also overseeing the municipality's traffic and licensing divisions.
Asked when Wells' last day in office would be, municipal spokesperson Chantèl Edwards said the municipality would not disclose the information.
Wells' departure raises questions about whether the municipality will promote from within or appoint another external candidate.
"The vacancy will be filled through the municipality's standard recruitment process in accordance with its Recruitment and Selection Policy, with the required qualifications and competencies set out in the advertised post," Edwards said.
In the meantime, an acting appointment will be made to ensure continued service delivery.
