GEORGE NEWS - The Reiger Park living area in Pacaltsdorp, also known as Erf 325 – East, consists of Flisp housing and RDP or Breaking New Ground (BNG) homes.
In this area, 1 238 homes were built, with 791 completed and handed over to the new owners by George Municipality and the Minister of Infrastructure Tertuis Simmers.
As soon as more homes are made available, approved beneficiaries on the housing list will be contacted by the municipality. These include homes for disabled persons.
According to Lauren Waring, Director of Human Settlements, Planning and Development, the tender process for construction of homes for disabled persons will soon be underway.
These homes need special additions such as ramps, handrails in the bathrooms, sliding doors and lower fitted taps.
Flisp (Finance Linked Individual Subsidy Programme) homes were developed by the Department of Human Settlements to enable affordable homeownership opportunities for South Africans.
Houses at the Metro Housing Project are going up fast.
The subsidy is offered to permanent residents of South Africa earning between R3 501 and R22 000 per month.
To date, a total of 147 homeowners were afforded Flisp homes. The Flisp houses are being marketed by Nandi BulaBula Lawyers and more than half of the homes have been sold.
