GEORGE NEWS AND VIDEO - George Mayor Melvin Naik is suspended from all DA activities for the next 60 days, starting from today, Monday 28 May.
Naik’s suspension was discussed during a DA Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) meeting last Monday (21 May). DA Provincial Communication Manager Odette Cason confirmed today that Naik has indeed been served with a letter by the PEC to suspend him from party activities.
Enquiries have been sent to the Western Cape minister of Local Government, Anton Bredell in this regard.
Meanwhile, Naik is back in office today after having taken a month’s leave. According to information Naik may still attend council meetings and perform his mayoral duties. However, he may not take part in caucus meetings.
A small delegation of DA leaders, including Bredell and Ministers Albert Fritz and Bonginkosi Madikizela, are expected in George later this afternoon for a meeting with the George caucus.
