NATIONAL NEWS - A 26-year-old miner, who was part of a team that had gone underground at a local mine in the early hours of Tuesday morning, died after he was crushed by a rock.
“While the team was drilling, a huge rock fell and injured two men.
“It landed on one of the men, covering most of his body,” explained Capt Johannes Ramphora, spokesperson of the Springs Police Station.
According to him, the man was taken to the mine’s clinic, where he died.
The second man sustained some injuries and was taken to hospital.
An inquest docket has been opened.
Ramphora added the mine is also investigating the event internally.
