NATIONAL NEWS - South Africa will on Monday, 27 April 2020, celebrate by reflecting on 26 years of freedom.
South Africans at large are informed that government will host Freedom Day through a virtual broadcast.
However, Freedom day 2020 as South Africans know it, is very much different than other years.
The year 2020 shepherded in with the COVID-19 challenge, a worldwide pandemic; this has in a great part changed and transformed things differently than what it is known to be or differently to the norm. Since the President announcement on the COVID-19 Pandemic during March 2020, surely things were transmuted for business uncommon.
This also prompted the way national days were going to be celebrated and commemorated.
The origin of COVID-19 caused South Africans to be tested in a big way. The norm as it was known had to be altered.
A need to do things differently is now the order of the day and thus too, how National Days as they were done before were challenged. Hence the use of virtual broadcast to celebrate and reflect on Freedom day.
The programme of the day will start at 11h00.
The President will deliver his Keynote address to the nation as follows:
- Date: Monday, 27 April 2020
- Time: 12:00
- Venue: Media Broadcasting Channels (Television and Radio)
South Africans are encouraged to tune into broadcasting channels such as SABC, Newzroom Africa, ENCA and on the SA Government Facebook page, Twitter and YouTube channels on the links below.
