The suspect, 24, who was pretending to be drunk, was pelting stones at passing vehicles on the R75 at 1pm on Saturday.
One of the stones hit a Hestony Transport truck that was being driven by a 61-year-old man.
The driver was transporting chickens from Uitenhage to Bloemfontein.
Police spokesman Sergeant Majola Nkohli said a stone hit the side mirror of the truck, prompting the driver to stop.
“The driver got out of the truck and as he approached the suspect, he noticed the man appeared drunk. He realised it was a ruse and that the man was pretending to be drunk.”
