The Democratic Alliance, Economic Freedom Fighters, Congress of the People, United Democratic Movement (UDM) and Inkatha Freedom Party made the announcement after meeting in Pretoria on Thursday.
The UDM’s Bantu Holomisa says that the privacy and safety of political leaders have become a concern.
“Over the past few months, many reports have surfaced of an alleged rogue intelligence unit spying on leaders.”
He says the Gupta leaks showed how the controversial family allegedly spied on prominent South Africans.
“We have resolved to ask Parliamentary Standing Committee on Intelligence to request a briefing from the state security apparatus on the media reports, especially in cases where some leaders have apparently being targeted for assassination.”
