The mother of three, 44-year-old Pathmavati Marimuthu who pleaded guilty, told the courts she was not aware that she was pregnant and was at home when she suddenly felt labour pains.
She stated that after giving birth in her bedroom, she had passed out and when she woke up the child was dead and the umbilical cord had snapped.
She added that she was afraid and had wrapped the full-term baby in newspaper and kept it in her cupboard. However, after three days the infant started to smell so she threw it in a nearby bush. Her husband who was away at the time stated he was unaware she was pregnant. A DNA test which was done on the female child matched both the parents.
