NATIONAL NEWS - A serious motor vehicle collision occurred this morning on the Okavango Road in Kraaifontien.

A father aged 27 was driving his 8-year-old daughter to school. Upon leaving the suburb of Uitsig and turning onto the Okavango Road, a refuse truck collided with the right side of their Mitsubishi Colt bakkie. The impact was severe.

When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene members of the public who had stopped at the scene had already removed the girl from the wrecked motor vehicle. The girl who was dressed in school clothing sustained significant injuries to her upper and lower body. She was stabalised at the scene before being transported to the nearby Cape Gate Medi-Clinic. The father had sustained significant injuries in the collision and was later declared dead at the scene.

The five occupants in the rubbish truck sustained no injuries. Local law enforcement authorities from Kraaifontein were at the scene and will be investigating the incident further.
