The effective replacements for the discontinued 6-series equivalents, the images by autovisie.nl falls in-line with recently captured spy images of the Gran Coupe undergoing testing in North America, in that it sports the same front end clip as the coupe but with a more distinctive, fastback rear-end design and a ducktail-like spoiler first seen on the X4.
While no sightings of the cabriolet have yet been reported, the documents shows the drop-top differing from the coupe only in that it gets a fabric folding roof and likely a plastic rear window. It is however expected to be heavier than the coupe to make up for the loss in rigidity, which will impede slightly on performance.
Like the coupe, the cabriolet and Gran Coupe will initially go on sale with a choice of two engines; the 320kW/680Nm 3.0-litre straight-six turbodiesel in the 840d and the 390kW/750Nm 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 in the M850i. Later-on, both will also be available in M8 guise powered by the same 441kW/750Nm twin-turbo V8 as the M5. An eight-speed Steptronic gearbox and xDrive all-wheel drive will be standard on all models.
Despite being unconfirmed, rumour is that both could bow before the Paris Motor Show in October.
