Safety tips for motorists:
- Lock all your doors and close the windows when driving.
- Keep your valuables in your boot and lock it.
- Never open vehicle windows or doors for strangers.
- Avoid getting involved in discussions with street vendors.
- Be on the lookout for suspicious activity and trust your instinct.
- Be conscious of your surroundings and remain alert when coming to an intersection.
- Fit windows with a Polycarb film to prevent shattering - these can be tinted.
- Leave your window 3cm open to allow it to absorb most of the impact by being less rigid.
- If you encounter obstacles such as rocks or tyres, do not get out of your vehicle. Reverse and drive off in the opposite direction.
- Approaching traffic lights at night, slow down well in advance so that the light changes green by the time you reach it.
- Leave a gap between you and the car in front for room to escape if anything should happen.
