GEORGE NEWS - A 31-year-old woman was arrested, in connection with the assault of a relative's son, on Thursday 29 December.
The George Family violence, Child protection and Sexual offences (FCS) unit is investigating a case of child abuse following the incident that took place in Genesis Street, Rosedale on Tuesday 27 December.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies, police were summoned to hospital by medical personnel when the child's mother arrived with her badly beaten two-year-old toddler.
"On arrival they found the boy with injuries to his face and an open wound and bruises around the eyes inflicted with an unknown object. It is alleged that the mother left the victim in the presence of family members and discovered the injuries on her return," said Spies.
The suspect remains in police custody. She is expected to make her first court appearance on Tuesday 3 January on a charge of child abuse.
