WESTERN CAPE NEWS - Premier Alan Winde said in a media statement earlier today that "the percentage of residents over 60 who have registered for their vaccine continues to increase on a daily basis, and we are confident we will soon break through the 50% mark."
According to the statement:
The latest breakdown for vaccination registrations by district is as follows:
- City of Cape Town - 220 076 (46.47%)
- Cape Winelands District – 34 896 (41.18%)
- Garden Route District – 38 628 (47.63%)
- Overberg District – 24 315 (75.63%)
- West Coast District – 19 809 (51.51%)
- Central Karoo District (29.66%)
While these figures have grown notably over the last month, I am still concerned that many communities within a specific district have low rates of vaccination registration mainly because they do not have the means to access the online registration portal.
Every life matters, no matter what you earn, or where you live, and that is why it is very important that every resident plays a role to ensure that we get as many people registered for their vaccine.
How to register:
Registration is simple and can be done by dialing *134*832# from your phone to start the registration process or send the word “REGISTER” to 0600 123 456 on WhatsApp.
You can also visit http://vaccine.enroll.health.gov.za, which is accessible from www.westerncape.gov.za.
I understand that not everyone has access to data. For this reason, we have also zero-rated the EVDS on the Western Cape Government’s public Wi-Fi hotspots. Should you struggle to register online, you can also visit your local library or Cape Access Centre.
How can someone under 60 help?
While we wait for the EVDS to open up for further age groups, we can play our part by helping to register those who might otherwise struggle.
I encourage those who aren’t yet eligible to visit or call their family, neighbours or friends who are eligible for their vaccine. You can ask them whether they have yet registered and if they would like your help. I’m certain that they would appreciate hearing from you.
