GEORGE NEWS - The man accused of kidnapping a little girl (3) in the New Harvest store at Eden Meander Lifestyle Centre last year, was convicted of the crime earlier this morning, Thursday 31 August, in the Thembalethu Regional Court.
Mvuyisi Zweni (33) will be sentenced on 10 October.
Zweni stands accused of kidnapping the toddler in May 2022. On CCTV video footage, Zweni can be seen picking up the little girl and making off with her while the mother's back is turned.
The toddler's young brother makes the alarm and the mother runs after Zweni.
About 15 seconds later she returns with the crying little girl in her arms after finding her in a storeroom with the man.
Zweni was arrested a few days after the incident and released on bail of R500.
Throughout the trial he stuck to his version that he did it because he likes children and he only wanted to play with her.
