GEORGE NEWS AND VIDEOS - The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation at SAPS, known as the Hawks, has swooped on the George Municipality and is conducting a raid at its various offices in town.
Hawks spokesperson Captain Philani Nkwalase has confirmed that the raid is part of an ongoing investigation and that the search and seizure into alleged fraud and corruption relate to irregular tender procurements and procedures.
He says no arrests have been made, but documents and electronic equipment have been confiscated.
He says the staff of certain offices are assisting the Hawks investigators, but for the rest of the personnel, it is business as usual.
Nkwalase is preparing a press release regarding the matter.
Nkwalase would not be drawn on which departments or individuals are being investigated, but said arrests may follow.
