GEORGE NEWS - A significant milestone in local service was marked on Saturday 6 June when the merger of the Eden Lions Club and the George Lions Club was celebrated.
This ushers in a new chapter for the Lions in the George area under the banner of George Lions, bringing together the experience, resources and service record of two long-standing clubs that have each served their communities with dedication and compassion over many years.
The celebration was attended by the Lions from across the Garden Route, past and present leaders, family members and community partners.
Speaking at the event, district governor Bevil Lakay emphasised that the merger is not the end of two clubs, but rather the creation of a stronger and more sustainable Lions presence in the region.
He said by combining their membership, expertise and resources, the newly merged club will be better positioned to address the growing needs of the community and expand its service projects.
The evening also provided an opportunity to recognise members whose commitment, leadership and dedication have helped shape the success of both clubs.
Special awards were presented to those Lions who have demonstrated outstanding service to their clubs and the broader community.
In the spirit of Lions International's motto, 'We Serve', the new club reaffirmed its commitment to serving those most in need and to building partnerships that will make a lasting difference in the George and Eden communities.
As the club moves forward united, its members expressed their optimism and enthusiasm for the future, confident that together, they can achieve even greater impact through service, fellowship and community engagement.
The George Lions will celebrate their 63rd charter anniversary this year.
The members are also looking forward to a year under the newly elected president, Pieter Nel's leadership.
For more information about the club's projects and membership opportunities, interested community members are encouraged to contact Nel on 078 874 6927.
