GEORGE NEWS - Plattner Boulevard is wide open to traffic again, and motorists are now able to travel along it without the stop-and-go roadworks that became a familiar part of daily travel during the first phase of its rehabilitation.
Phase 1 was completed, and the road was reopened on 5 September, bringing some welcome relief to residents and road users.
Subject to available funding, the next phase will focus on the section between Barkhuizen Drive and Victor Smith Crescent. Phase 3 will then extend the rehabilitation from Victor Smith Crescent to York Street.
However, several access and capacity challenges need to be addressed before phase 3 can proceed, particularly around traffic flow and access to properties and surrounding roads.
George Municipality has stressed that the rehabilitation project is closely linked to the bus service, which is why the project has been limited to the existing road's rehabilitation.
