GEORGE NEWS - Eden District Early Childhood Development (ECD) practitioners shone at the Western Cape ECD Awards ceremony held late November at the Thembalethu Thusong Centre.
The awards, which are organised by the National Development Agency (NDA), are part of the South African ECD Awards. It recognises excellence, innovation, best practice, dedication and participation in the ECD sector.
Over 100 people, including ECD forums across the province, politicians and other stakeholders, attended the ceremony.
The winners are as follows:
- Best ECD centre of the year (Western Cape)
- Winner: Campus Kids (Bellville, Cape Town)
- 1st Runner-up: Lammeroes Projek (Bonnievale, Cape Winelands District)
- 2nd Runner-up: Besige Bytjies (Zoar, Eden District)
From left are the first runner-up, Eunice van Aardt (Siembamba Versorgingsoord, Dysselsdorp), winner Zingisa Dyongo (Vuzokuhle Educare Centre, Mbekweni, Paarl) and second runner-up Yolandi Swarts (Lankwitz Luther Angel Faces, Dysselsdorp).
Campus Kids will represent the Western Cape at the national awards which will be held on 11 December in Polokwane, competing with winners from the other eight provinces for best ECD centre of the year in the country.

- Winner: Zingisa Dyongo (Mbekweni, Cape Winelands District)
- 1st Runner-up: Eunice van Aardt (Dysselsdorp, Eden District)
- 2nd Runner-up: Yolandi Swarts (Dysselsdorp, Eden District)
Zingisa Dyongo will represent Western Cape at the national awards, competing with winners from eight other provinces for the best ECD practitioner of the year in the country.
