GEORGE NEWS - Victoria Bay residents and guest houses heaved a sigh of relief after their Telkom lines were finally repaired last week. This followed a two-month wait and a loss of revenue over Easter weekend. To add insult to injury, technicians made a last-minute mix-up during the repairs, which resulted in Land's End Guesthouse owner Rod Hossack receiving his neighbour's calls for a few days. Crossed lines, indeed.
But this week, Seabreeze Cabanas resort manager Ampie Vorster and Hossack are full of smiles at having the much-needed telecommunication services restored and functioning normally.
The Telkom line to Victoria Bay was severed in February when a bluegum tree fell on it and guest houses noticed a definite decrease in business, despite adding cell phone numbers on their websites. A Telkom spokesperson said that the issue had been dragged out by cable theft.
Vorster attributes the final resolving of the problem to the involvement and intervention of the Western Cape Province's Red Tape Unit.
