GEORGE NEWS - Thanduxolo Alto Mavata (53) of Mavatas Road Construction and Maintenance was sentenced to 13 years direct imprisonment in the George Regional Court on Monday 19 September for contravention of the Tax Administration Act.
A preliminary report by the South African Revenue Services (Sars) revealed that Mavata's fraudulent activities have cost the Receiver of Revenue in excess of R880 000.
The matter was investigated by the Hawks' Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team in George.
Mavata is the director and sole member of Mavatas, and his company also received two fines of R40 000 and R50 000 each, which were wholly suspended.
