GEORGE NEWS - Flying in an aerodynamic v-shape enables a flock of birds to fly 70% further with the amount of energy an individual bird would use if it flew alone.
This analogy* shared by guest speaker Mark Phillips for the teamwork displayed at the George Airport, was a heart-warming introduction to the annual Feather Awards of the Airports Company South Africa (Acsa).
The event was held at Fancourt last Friday, 15 November, in honour of the service providers, stakeholder partners and role players who ensure that visitors leave the George Airport with a smile on their faces.
It was the very last time that the Feather Awards was held under this name. Following input from all stakeholders and an extensive voting process, the function will from next year on be referred to as the Airport Service Excellence Awards.
With a total of 15 category winners the evening was filled with emotional moments of appreciation from those recognised for doing their job really well.
Two award winners who were honoured for their dedication, George Airport secretary Nomzama Thala and SA Airlink branch manager John Spence, were visibly moved by this gesture.
Airport manager Brenda Vorster praised Thala, who received the Recognition Award for her incredible service and friendly nature, while Spence was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award following more than 40 years of service in the airport industry.
