GEORGE NEWS - A fire in the refreshment area at the Ster-Kinekor movie complex in the Garden Route Mall in the early hours of today, Friday 18 May, led to the cancellation of all movies today.
Garden Route Mall Manager Rion Olivier says the fire, believed to have been caused by a faulty plug attached to a Slush Puppy machine, broke out at about 03:00.
“Due to our excellent smoke detectors, sprinkler system and the fast reaction time of the George Fire Brigade, only minimal damage was caused. As a precaution and to make sure everything is 100% safe, I have requested a full electricity certificate from the fire brigade. If we receive this on time, the theatres will reopen to the public tonight.”
As soon as he has clarity about this, a notice will appear on the Garden Route Mall Facebook page.
Olivier said most of the damage was caused by the smoke and water.
