GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Police in the Eden District are ready for the holiday season.
The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile, visited the Garden Route and Little Karoo last week during the launch of the Safer Festive Season campaign on Wednesday and Thursday, 23 and 24 October, to assess the readiness of the police for the festive period.
This crime-combatting campaign, which is already underway, includes the monitoring and policing of the main entrance and exit routes to the region, in an attempt to eradicate the flow of illegal goods and drugs into the province.
Visitors can expect to see many patrols, roadblocks and vehicle checkpoints to clamp down on criminal activities.
"As police in the Western Cape, we look forward to working in conjunction with all stakeholders and local municipalities to ensure that the public and visitors to the province are safe. We are also focusing on the protection of women, children, the elderly, and persons with special needs.
"We have deployed additional investigators to ensure that those who damage essential infrastructure and extortionists are brought to book. I urge the public to report any criminal activities to the police and to adhere to instructions of law-enforcement officials," he said.Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile, in Mossel Bay last week.
