Phones to be analysed in Hlompho murder

GEORGE NEWS - Three more cellphones and four Sim cards were found at the Thembalethu home of the mother of murder accused, Siphosihle Pamba (23), on Monday 13 August.

This is what investigating officer, Detective Constable Thembekile Matwa, told the court from the witness stand during the ongoing bail application of the three murder accused in the Hlompho Mohapi murder case on Tuesday 14 August. The state opposed bail in the case against pastor Melisizwe Monqo (30) from King Williams Town, his fiancée, Pamba, and the pastor's cousin, Phumlani Qusheka (28).

The three have been in custody since they were arrested last month shortly after Mohapi's body was found dumped next to the Voëlklip road near Herold's Bay. Before her murder, two life insurance policies and a funeral policy were taken out on her life.

Other policies of the same nature were allegedly taken out by Monqo and Pamba on more unsuspecting victims. The court heard that the confiscated cellphones and the Sim cards will be sent for analysis to ascertain whether they have been used for similar activities.

The defence team and the state prosecutor, MP Heyns, agreed that the heads of argument will be given to Magistrate Phillip Mgwebile on Monday 20 August.

The bail application will resume in the George Magistrate's Court the following day.
