Update
GEORGE NEWS - Reconstruction of the Market and Mitchell Street intersection will impact road users during the period from 17 October to 14 November.
Road users are urged to be patient and exercise caution during the upgrade.
The Municipality realises the impact of road works and apologises for the inconvenience.
Traffic impact:
The Mitchell / Market Street intersection will be reconstructed in 2 phases. The first phase
commenced on 17 October. During the entire construction period the intersection will be closed for traffic in Market Street.
Mitchell Street will remain open to traffic with a stop go to regulate the flow across Market Street. Go George bus services in Market Street will be affected and temporary bus stops will be implemented.
As there will be very limited turning space in the sections of Market Street between Cradock and Mitchell Streets and Mitchell and Merriman Streets, access will be limited for large delivery vehicles, and no access will be permissible for interlinks.
Extra care is to be taken by road users and pedestrians throughout the duration of the construction period. Adherence to temporary road signage and markings will be required.
