More about the photos
Junior Nature winner - Renee van Zyl - The Rogue
The photo was taken at Herold's Bay. Nikon D750 Tamaron, 150 - 600 lens, 1/1000s, ISO 252, F6.3
Senior Nature winner - Gustav van der Gryp - Cheetahs playing
The photo was taken in the Serengeti in 2018. We came across these two cheetah cubs playing while the mother was relaxing nearby.
Canon 1DX, 200-400m Zoom lens at F16, 1/1250s at ISO1250.
Theme winner - Trish Hall - A lone bulb
The theme was still-life. The bulb was chosen as subject in keeping with our times. The photo was taken at night to eliminate window reflections. A steamer was used, with a light underneath it, the light bulb placed on top and a second light to bounce light from the ceiling. The camera, a Canon 70D, was mounted on a tripod, using an EF 24-105mm lens, focal length 45, exposure 2sec, F/11, ISO100 and in manual mode.
Senior Open winner - Joggie van Staden - Liquid gold
I used a simple set-up of a hospital dripper and a big flat metal pan which I set up on a table with a dark background. Used a remote flashlight set at manual with an amber-coloured gel filter and played with the angle and flash output. Then just timed the shot to catch the drop as it bounced back from the water (that required some practice!). Nikon D800E, Nikkor 105mm Micro, f2.8 at f8, 1/200s and 200 ISO.
Junior Open winner - Elaine van der Toorn - Angry Wave
The photo was taken at the Point in Mossel Bay in June 2017 when the seas were really rough. It was really beautiful watching these "water monsters" crashing on the rocks and each wave was a masterpiece on its own.
After attending a presentation by Joggie at GCC recently, I was inspired and went to search for my forgotten folder with all these lovely images.
The photo was taken with a Nikon D750 at f/22 and 1/1250s.
