Update

HESSEQUA NEWS - Unfortunately a small home, 3 stores and a caravan were lost during the wildfire in Gouritzmond at Platbos in Arendsvlug. 

According to Station Officer of Garden Route District Municipality's Fire and Rescue Services, Deon Stoffels, the wildfire approached the property from opposite sides and family members were proactively moved to a safe space. 

A chopper managed to bomb some of the structures and saved the main residence on the property, but unfortunately it could not save all the buildings. 

The situation is quite hostile at the moment due to the wind constantly changing direction. 

Firefighters are still racing to contain the wildfire which is spread over two separate areas, with one of the wildfires moving towards Vleesbay.

15 Firefighters from Garden Route District Municipality, a team from Working on Fire, Hessequa Fire, Farm Watch and Farmers are on the scene.

Firefighting efforts will continue throughout the evening.
