Update
GEORGE NEWS - Light rain has contributed to a decrease in temperatures and a reduction in fire intensity in the Haarlem area where various firefighting teams have been fighting veld fires since Saturday 16 March.
George Municipality says as a result the fire is now contained with teams from the Garden Route District Municipality (GRDM) fire and Working on Fire (WOF) remaining on site to conduct mop-up operations and monitor the area.
The George firefighting team has safely returned to the station with all vehicles.
George municipal manager, Dr Michele Gratz, has commended the team for their exceptional work and unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety of communities and the protection of structures.
