GEORGE NEWS - A cyclist from George says he was left in complete shock after a man pointed a gun at him during his morning cycle on Friday 30 September.
The incident happened in Knysna Road, between CTM and the turn-off to Le Vallia, at approximately 05:00.
According to the cyclist, who wishes to have his identity withheld, he wasn't sure if it was a real firearm, but he was certainly not going to wait around to find out.
"I was cycling in the direction of town from CTM when I noticed a man who looked like a jogger, running towards me on the grassed area next to the road across from Mujo Bar and Restaurant. At first I didn't think anything of it, but after a while I became suspicious. It looked to me as if he was planning to cut me off," he says.
Before the thought left his mind, the jogger, who was wearing a mask with a picture of a skull on it, jumped into the road facing the cyclist.
"He pulled out a gun, pointed it at me and cocked it. I managed to escape into the oncoming lane. I don't know if he was going to shoot, but I didn't want to find out either," the cyclist says.
The gunman ran off and the cyclist immediately phoned the police to report the incident.
"I won't stop running and cycling in the area. It's one of the reasons I moved here," says the cyclist. "I've been living in George for the last 22 years. I just feel that people should be warned and be vigilant when they are out and about."
