GEORGE NEWS - Students of the special needs school Up With Down's took handfuls of green ribbons to three shopping centres in town on Wednesday 22 March to create awareness about Down's syndrome, which was celebrated internationally on Tuesday 21 March.
Clients of Pick n Pay Mini Market, Pick n Pay in Knysna Road and Eden Meander Lifestyle Centre were met by enthusiastic learners, lots of little green ribbons and giggles.
Up With Down's celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, and was surprised with a lovely cake by Pick n Pay Mini Market's manager Edward Knoetze.
At Pick n Pay in Knysna Road students were happy to connect with their first "customer", a long-time friend of Up With Down's, local musician Voldi George.
George has performed at many of the school's fundraisers, including their annual wine auction. This year's auction will be held on 26 May at Fancourt.
Tickets are available at the school on 044 870 8770 or Brenda Boshoff on 082 853 5018.
