GEORGE NEWS - A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity came at the right time for Stephanie Geland from Pacaltsdorp. She studied Human Resources at South Cape College and completed her N6 certificate in 2014.
"I then got the opportunity in 2015 to do my practical at South Cape TVET College. I worked at George Campus doing the HR duties, then I was transferred to the Central Office in the HR department till 31 March 2018," says Geland.
December last year she heard of the CCI programme that gives students the opportunity to further their studies in the United States. "Dr Tercia Terblanche had Selwyn Kiewiets, the job placement officer, gather students that were interested in the programme. We had an induction where they explained everything and gave us forms to be completed."
Geland explains that this is an annual exchange programme that places students from different countries at various colleges in the United States.
Selected participants get placed for 10 months at colleges in the United States according to their field of study.
After completing the programme, a graduation ceremony will be held where all the participants will receive certificates in their study field. "I have been placed at Houston Community College, where I will further my studies in Human Resources," she says.
She anticipates being able to learn from a different point of view and gathering more information on how US companies are run and how their systems work. "Afterwards I will have a broader point of view which I can incorporate in my life and career."
