GEORGE NEWS - The Rotary Club of George closed off the year on a meaningful note by sponsoring a New Year’s Eve dinner for residents of the George Night Shelter, bringing a festive cheer to some of the town’s most vulnerable people.
A total of 135 homeless residents were treated to a hot meal on the final night of the year.
“Rotary’s mission is to make a difference in the lives of others, and this dinner was a way to show our homeless community that they are valued and cared for,” said Wilhelm van der Vyver, president of the Rotary Club of George.
The dinner formed part of the club’s ongoing support for the Night Shelter throughout the year.
During 2025, Rotary contributed to several improvement projects at the facility, including the replacement of flooring, the donation of linen, and the upgrade of the shelter’s computer system to enhance security and operational efficiency.

According to the club, its involvement with the Night Shelter will continue in the coming year, with additional projects already in the pipeline. The Rotary Club of George has also extended an open invitation to businesses and individuals who wish to get involved or support future initiatives.
Through projects such as these, the Rotary Club of George continues to play an active role in supporting and uplifting vulnerable communities in the area.
