The stickers on the bakkies, kindly sponsored by Characters, have the SPCA logo and emergency contact number on them. They are stuck onto the containers so that people have the correct details in case of an animal emergency.
The containers are filled with donated, dry food and/or biscuits and distributed by the SPCA inspectors when they do their rounds. The food is often the first the animal has had in days and the dishes can later be used as either a food or water dish.
The contact made between the inspectors and the people in poorer communities while handing out the food is building bridges and the animal owners feel more inclined to ask for advice or help rather than hide their animals away when they see the SPCA vehicle coming.
Used 2 litre ice cream containers and smaller containers (for cats) with lids filled with dry dog /cat food can be dropped at the library, the SPCA's charity shops in the York Mall Arcade, or the SPCA office in Ossie Urban Street.
