GEORGE NEWS - Mediclinic George is able to resume elective surgeries today, 1 February, due to the continuing decline in Covid-19 cases.
"We are fortunately seeing a reduction in cases and admissions and are happy that we can also reintroduce visiting hours, but only one visitor at a time. Covid patients are not allowed to receive any visitors," said the manager, Kassie Karstens.
Visiting hours are from 15:00 to 20:00.
George Herald is awaiting information regarding elective surgeries at George Hospital.
Mediclinic Southern Africa said last week that vaccinators are currently undergoing online training to ensure that the hospital group complies with all regulations relating to the roll-out of Covid-19 vaccinations.
The group has applied for all its Mediclinic facilities to be registered as vaccination centres to assist in the roll-out of vaccines.
Information regarding the arrival date of vaccines in the Garden Route and identifying of vaccination centres is being awaited from the Western Cape Health Department.
More routine health services reinstated
In the light of the number of Covid-19 cases declining, health services in the Garden Route District are currently being re-evaluated to determine which routine services can be resumed.
"This includes routine surgeries at district hospitals," says Nadia Ferreira, district spokesperson for the Western Cape Department of Health.
"At George Hospital, some routine surgeries have already been carried out since the middle of January. Emergency surgeries have been carried out throughout the pandemic."
