GEORGE NEWS - On Friday 14 October, 450 people braved the elements to attend the George Royal Academy's Strictly Come Dancing-style fundraiser, "Strictly at the Strawberry".
After a three-year break due to Covid, the popular event returned better than ever, hosted in a fabulous marquee in front of the giant strawberry at Redberry Farm.
The eight brave couples from George who were coached by Alister and Robyn of the Alexander Academy of Dance in the art of ballroom and Latin dance over 12 weeks, put on a show to remember.
The performances were nothing short of spectacular and there was a guest appearance from singer Caroline Grace who sang a haunting rendition of Lost With You by Freya Ridings alongside a stunning dance performance from amateur dance champions Jadrin Maduna and Verna-lee Arries.
The audience selected their favourite couple by voting for them with donations, making it a fun way to raise much-needed finances for the George Royal Academy.

Formerly known as Sports Academy George, this NPO has been serving the community of George for 15 years with their programme for underprivileged young people. It became a high school in 2019 and operates from a building on Meade Street. There are currently 62 young people involved in the school where they get holistic care.
The grand final consisted of three couples - Rohan and Rosanne Minnaar, who danced a jive, Marthinus and Zani Coleman dancing a salsa and Mivuyo Manzi and Asanda Ngcwangu, the netball and soccer captains at George Royal Academy, who set the room alight with their samba routine.
The winners as chosen by the judging panel were Marthinus and Zani Coleman.
