GEORGE NEWS - A Go George bus driver had to head for cover at the Thembalethu Police Station after his bus was stoned during a drive-through in the area on Wednesday morning, 8 March.
This after a drive-through with a smaller bus on the proposed routes in the area on the previous morning, Tuesday 7 March, went without incident.
George Municipality confirmed the incident and said the police responded and arrested a suspect. No one was injured in the incident.
"Test drives were delayed for a short period, but later resumed and continued as planned for the remainder of the time with several additional buses driven into Thembalethu without any further incidents."
The drive-throughs are supported and monitored by local law enforcement agencies, including the police and the traffic department.
During these drives, undertaken in different sizes of Go George buses, the actual time it takes to complete the various proposed routes by bus will be established and checked against the proposed timetables.
Go George kiosk container burnt
About three weeks ago, two arson attempts were made on a Go George kiosk in Thembalethu.
According to George municipal communications head Chantèl Edwards, the fire was extinguished before any serious damage was incurred.
"The incidents were reported to the police and cases were opened. The matter remains under investigation," she said.
According to unconfirmed information, the shipping container-style kiosk was empty and not yet in operation. No injuries were reported.
