GEORGE NEWS - Four suspects were recently arrested in connection with four unrelated sexual offences in the George area.
A 46-year-old man will appear in the George Magistrate’s Court later today, Monday 4 April, for allegedly raping a 26-year-old mentally challenged victim.
The date and time of the incident is unknown to police at this stage.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, Capt Malcolm Pojie, the victim told a friend of the family about the incident, saying the suspect arranged with her to meet secretly in bushes near Mission Street, Pacaltsdorp, where he raped her and paid her R50 to keep quiet.
Man arrested for raping his partner
In the early morning hours of Saturday 2 April, a 46-year-old victim was allegedly drinking with her boyfriend and another friend before she was raped. The incident occurred at a house in Buffalo Close, Parkdene.
According to Pojie the victim went to bed and was later disturbed by someone on top of her, violating her. She then fell asleep again, but allegedly woke up later with the same suspect, her boyfriend, busy raping her a second time.
“She reported the incidents to the Conville police,” said Pojie.
The suspect is scheduled to appear in court on a charge of rape later today.
Child raped in Thembalethu
A six-year-old child from Thembalethu was allegedly raped by a man (21) at her aunt’s house in Zone 6 on Wednesday 30 March.
“It is alleged that the suspect entered the room where the victim was lying on the bed, and assaulted her. The victim alerted her aunt who subsequently told the father. The father then reported it to the George police station and the suspect was arrested,” said Pojie.
He made his first court appearance on Friday 1 April. The outcome is yet unknown.
Attack in Thembalethu
A woman (26) escaped with minor injuries after a man allegedly attempted to rape her in Thembalethu on Saturday 2 April.
According to Pojie, it is alleged that the victim went to the house of the suspect in Zone 6 to fetch a candle when he confronted her, claiming that she owed him money, and suggested she paid him with sex.
After refusing him, the suspect tried to rape her by forcing her into the house. The victim sustained a stab wound to her upper left arm, but managed to escape.
The suspect was arrested shortly afterwards and is scheduled to appear in the George Magistrate’s Court on charges of attempted rape and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
