GEORGE NEWS - Four suspects were arrested in connection with two unrelated murders in George over the weekend.
On Saturday 29 August, Thembalethu police officers arrested Aphelele Magcanya (22), Onke Mgudlwa (24) and Aphelele Makhumsha (27) in connection with the murder of a 47-year-old man in Zone 6, Thembalethu.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, Sgt Chris Spies, the victim was assaulted by a group of people. His body was found in Asazani Street afterwards.
"He had a stab wound to his head and paramedics declared him dead on the scene," Spies said. The suspects were taken into custody and appeared in the George Magistrate's Court on a charge of murder on Monday 31 August. They remain in custody until their next court appearance. The date still has to be confirmed.
The identity of the deceased cannot be disclosed as police have not been able to contact his next of kin yet.
In an unrelated incident, police arrested Alfred Kannemeyer (57) in connection with a murder on a farm in Wilderness on Sunday 30 August after the body of the 50-year-old Ivan Jansen was found in his bedroom.
"Investigation at the scene showed that he had been assaulted with a spade. He sustained multiple injuries and died at the scene," said Spies.
The suspect was arrested on a charge of murder and appeared in the George Magistrate's Court on Tuesday. He remains in custody until his next court appearance.
