GEORGE NEWS - George members of the South African Cape Corps Military Veterans Association (SACCMVA) attended the first quarterly meeting of the association in the Drakenstein region from 3 to 4 March. It drew 42 delegates, including observers from all the regions of SACCMVA.
"This very successful meeting was significant in the sense of paving the way forward for strategic plans being laid out and regional participation in key service delivery activities in the province," said John Bruinders, Western Cape chairman.
"The focus of the meeting was predominantly directed to key service areas which included database, housing, health access, business and skills development, burial and tombstone as well as financial responsibilities."
The upcoming SACCMVA national conference was briefly discussed and important election processes ironed out as part of the provincial delegation's mandate to serve the members in the best way possible.
"Members are encouraged to communicate and share information through legitimate channels and prevent damaging and negative publicity as rule of thumb. The need for finance across the province was unanimously acknowledged by all delegates. Finance is and will always be the key component that drives successful implementation and acts as an enabler of participation across the province," said Bruinders.
Regions were encouraged to have fundraising initiatives to assist and enable important functionality.
Bruinders emphasised the importance of working together as a team to ensure that the organisation fulfils its mandate of service delivery to all.
"SACCMVA is gearing for growth and expansion and is keen to tackle challenges head-on in 2023. The housing and database registrations are in fact gaining momentum, although the Department of Military Veterans (DMV) is still dragging its feet. SACCMVA members must ensure DMV processes and policies are followed to the letter to prevent repetitive applications."
