GEORGE NEWS - A resident, Damian du Plessis (40), who is facing charges stemming from a house fire in George South earlier this month, is now facing an additional charge of violating a corpse.
Du Plessis is already charged with arson and defeating the ends of justice. He remains in custody while investigators await the outcome of a DNA analysis on a body found inside the house after the fire was extinguished.
According to the Southern Cape Police's spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie, the DNA results are still outstanding, and no further information can be released until they become available.
Du Plessis is scheduled to appear in the George Magistrate's Court on 29 September, when the matter resumes.
The investigation is continuing. The identity, gender and cause of death of the deceased have not been released.
