GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - This year's Plett Arts Festival takes place from 25 June to 9 July, offering a bag of music, theatre, documentaries, fine art, fashion and design, crafts and markets.
A winter school will also be presented.
A social consciousness will be prevalent in all the events. The festival brings in Afridocs in the form of five thought-provoking films on the big screen from 4 to 6 July. These include a documentary on the life and times of Miriam Makeba, affectionately known as 'Mama Africa', who acted as a cultural ambassador of not only South Africa but also the entire continent, during times when it was not popular to do so.
Through her music and song, she inspired generations to have the courage to stand up against oppression, and perhaps also consoled those in prison.
