GEORGE NEWS - Several members of law enforcement agencies across George joined hands to have a roadblock and awareness campaign on Saturday 3 October.
"Heinrich Sauls of the organisation Changemakers came up with the initiative after one of our provincial traffic officers, Janneké Bergman (29), was shot on the Pacaltsdorp bridge recently," said George police communications officer, Capt Nolonwabu Tshengu.
"George police, provincial and municipal traffic officers, road safety agents, members from the Department of Health as well as members of the K-9 unit took part in the initiative on the N2 between the Garden Route Mall and Total Kraaibosch."
According to Tshengu the aim of the initiative was to bring all the role players together to ensure that motorists are safe on our roads. During the roadblock, pamphlets to raise awareness of domestic violence were also handed out.
Another of these initiatives will take place later in the year and businesses in George are welcome to support the project when the festive season is launched.
For more information on how to take part, Sauls can be contacted on 066 370 5131 or send him an e-mail to proudly2019@gmail.com.
