GEORGE NEWS - A 33-year-old suspect allegedly involved in various crimes in the region was arrested in Thembalethu on Thursday 3 November.
This follows an extensive search and investigation into the whereabouts of the suspect after an attack in Thembalethu on Sunday 23 May 2021, when a group of friends were having a braai outside a residence in Asazani.
An unknown number of gunmen stopped and started shooting at the group. Six victims sustained gunshot wounds and cases of attempted murder were opened.
The suspect was arrested on charges of attempted murder at a residence in Sampie Street.
“The accused made his first court appearance on Friday 4 November on six counts of attempted murder. He was remanded in custody and the matter was postponed to 12 December when the accused is expected to be joined by his co-accused, aged 39 and 41, already in custody,” said Spies.
Meanwhile, various probes conducted by Western Cape crime detectives also linked the accused to numerous cases of murder and cash-in-transit robberies committed in the area.
