GEORGE NEWS AND VIDEO - Nine Nelson Mandela University students were arrested this afternoon following protest action at the entrance to the university.
Members of the Public order policing unit (Pops) arrived at the campus at 17:15. Several smoke grenades were fired.
The students, about 40 at the time, fled into the forest.
Students blocked the entrance to the university earlier today demanding that they receive their National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) allowances for food, books and accommodation.
A memorandum was handed to management.
