GEORGE NEWS - Two men were arrested in possession of copper cables on the N2 between George and Wilderness at about 16:20 on Wednesday 11 May.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies, police officers were patrolling the highway when they received a tip-off about two suspicious-looking men.
They acted on the information and noticed the pair on foot, carrying backpacks.
“They approached the men and ensued with a search,” said Spies. “They then found copper cables in their possession. The items were confiscated and the suspects, aged 22 and 26, were arrested on charges of possession of suspected stolen property.”
The suspects remained in police custody and were scheduled to appear in the George Magistrate’s Court yesterday, Thursday 12 May. More charges could be added as the investigation unfolds.
