GEORGE NEWS - The Tekkie Town head-office will be moving to new premises in the George CBD.
This was confirmed today by Tekkie Town CEO Riaan van Rooyen after being approached for comment on a rumour that a lease has been signed for new premises. Their new address will be the offices above OK in Meade Street where about 190 staff members will be accommodated.
"We have been looking for some time for suitable office space in George that will offer a better and practical work environment for our personnel and will be adequate to meet our outlook for growth. A long process of technical design with our architect and engineering team, tenders, appointment of contractors and construction will now follow. No date has been set for the move, but it can take up to 12 months."
Staff members were informed yesterday. "They are all happy and extremely excited to be based in the CBD."
Van Rooyen said Pepkor is already investigating the options of what to do with their current office space for the remaining period of their rental contract. A rumour that all distribution centre deliveries are being diverted from the head-office warehouses to an off-site warehouse in the George industrial area is not true. "Our stock is, like before, being received and distributed in our three distribution centres." He said there are two on the Tekkie Town premises and a third in the industrial area that belongs to Steinhoff.
Mr. Tekkie CEO and former Tekkie Town CEO Bernard Mostert confirmed that efforts to obtain an eviction order against Tekkie Town from the Meul Street premises are ongoing. Tekkie Town founder Braam van Huyssteen owns the Meul Street premises.
